Lab. of Environmental Hygiene (Sei Lab.), Kitasato Univ.
Research Topics
Our laboratory, established in April 2011, focuses on "water", which is essential for the survival of living organisms, and conducts research and technological development to evaluate the hygienic safety of the water environment and to create safe and secure water environments.
The research themes undergoing are as follows:
-
Pathogens and disease vectors/hosts monitoring in aquatic environments by analyzing environmental DNA and environmental RNA
-
Identification of the source of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and clarification of their behavior in the water environment
-
Development of novel disinfection technologies applicable for pathogens, ARB and ARGs control
Identification of the source of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and their reduction strategies
Application of environmental DNA (eDNA) and environmental RNA (eRNA) analysis for evaluating urban sanitation and risk estimation of infectious diseases
Water quality monitoring for hygienic safety evaluation in the river, lake, pond, groundwater and drinking water
Development of inactivation technology of waterborne infectious fecal-microorganisms and antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs) by applying impulse voltage, peracetic acid (PAA), and performic acid (PFA)
